A unique hybrid of a foundation and a game studio

Backed by Supercell entrepreneurs and built by game developers, engineers and social scientists, we are committed to giving back to non-profit communities that advance social equity and inclusion among kids and youth.

2020

The new strategy around games and global impact starts to take shape, and the idea for a new type of community game is born. Impact-driven game studio Wondershop is launched in October. Their first project, codenamed Wonderworld, is a community-based game. We Foundation continues its operations alongside Wondershop to fight social marginalization among kids and youth.

2019

The foundation transitions from a grant-making foundation to an operating foundation and starts planning for its own community house, Meltsi. Open for kids of the area aged 0-12 and their families, Meltsi is a space for kids to explore and marvel at the universe through science, art, sports and technology. Meltsi’s activities are shaped by game development, social sciences and pedagogy alike, and at its core is the belief that games and technology can create measurable societal impact.

2017-2018

New community houses are opened in Kerava, Pori, Tampere and Espoo together with local partners. The foundation develops We Schools with the aim of increasing kids’ social inclusion in schools and encouraging their commitment to education. The first schools are opened in Espoo and Lohja.

2016

The first community houses open: first, in Pansio-Perno in collaboration with the Fingerroos Foundation and later that year in Lappeenranta together with Nicehearts ry. These community houses are open, free-of-charge spaces for kids and youth, set up in communities with few existing services and a high risk of social exclusion.

2015

Me-säätiö (We Foundation) is founded by Ilkka Paananen & Mikko Kodisoja – “We wanted to give back to the Finnish society that has given us so much. After careful consideration, we chose social equality and inclusion as our focus.” The foundation is funded by Ilkka Paananen’s and Mikko Kodisoja’s private foundations.

During 2015-2019, the foundation gives out grants of up to 10 million euros to support various initiatives and projects across Finland, such as Sekasin chat, Sekasin Discord and Migrant Youth Helsinki.
